DR SKINPRO® – The Science Behind Infrared Technology

Infrared and red-light technology form an important part of the DR SKINPRO® approach to advanced health solutions, particularly in the field of targeted pain relief.

Over several years, we have researched and developed infrared applications together with experts from the health sector, focusing on one central question: how can different wavelengths be combined and applied to reach different tissue depths and provide targeted support exactly where pain and discomfort occur?

This research has led to the development of different DR SKINPRO® infrared technologies — from concentrated premium laser treatment to convenient, wearable infrared support.

Why Wavelengths Matter

Not every wavelength of red and infrared light interacts with tissue in the same way.

Different wavelengths reach different tissue depths. This makes the selection, combination and application of wavelengths a central part of developing an effective infrared health solution.

Red-light wavelengths such as 650–660 nm are primarily used for more superficial treatment areas and can support local circulation.

Near-infrared wavelengths such as 808–850 nm are able to penetrate more deeply into tissue, making them particularly relevant when deeper areas of discomfort need to be targeted.

At DR SKINPRO®, years of development have gone into selecting and combining wavelengths for different applications rather than relying on a single form of light for every treatment.

Infrared Technology for Targeted Pain Relief

Pain relief is one of the principal areas behind our infrared research.

Depending on the technology and application method, infrared treatment can be used to provide targeted support for a wide range of pain and discomfort, including:

  • chronic knee and back pain
  • neck and shoulder pain
  • muscle and joint pain
  • muscular tension
  • localised nerve discomfort
  • discomfort associated with herniated discs
  • heel discomfort and heel spurs
  • rheumatic complaints
  • fibromyalgia-related discomfort
  • persistent or recurring everyday pain

By directing infrared energy towards the affected area, treatment can be applied precisely rather than affecting the entire body.

Infrared technology can also support local blood circulation, which is another important part of the DR SKINPRO® infrared approach.

Years of Research and Development

At DR SKINPRO®, an infrared device is not simply defined by the number of LEDs or lasers it contains.

During development, we consider several factors together:

Wavelength composition:
Different wavelengths are selected according to the tissue depth and type of application they are intended to support.

Treatment depth:
Our infrared range includes technologies designed for both more superficial support and deeper, more intensive treatment.

Power and concentration:
Different applications require different levels of focused infrared energy.

Application method:
Some areas benefit from highly precise handheld treatment, while others are better suited to comfortable hands-free application.

Everyday usability:
Effective technology should also be simple enough to use consistently as part of everyday life.

This combination of research, expertise, technology and practical application forms the basis of our infrared health solutions.

Two Infrared Solutions – Developed for Different Needs

Our current infrared portfolio demonstrates how the same research philosophy can be translated into different forms of treatment.

DR SKINPRO® Infrared Pain Laser

The DR SKINPRO® Infrared Pain Laser is our premium infrared device and represents the most powerful solution within our current infrared range.

It combines 650 nm and 808 nm laser technology, with the 650 nm wavelengths supporting more superficial treatment areas while the concentrated 808 nm infrared laser technology is designed to reach deeper into the tissue.

The device was developed for more intensive and precise treatment across a particularly wide range of pain conditions.

Its handheld design allows the user to direct the treatment exactly towards the affected area, making it suitable for applications ranging from muscle and joint pain to knee and back pain, neck and shoulder discomfort, tension and other persistent or deeper areas of pain.

The DR SKINPRO® Infrared Pain Laser therefore represents our premium solution for customers looking for more powerful, deeper and highly targeted infrared treatment.

DR SKINPRO® Infrared Therma Plus

The Infrared Therma Plus is our latest infrared development and expands the DR SKINPRO® range with a premium, wearable alternative.

It combines 12 × 660 nm red-light diodes with 4 × 850 nm near-infrared diodes, providing two complementary wavelength ranges within one compact device.

The 660 nm red light is designed to support the outer treatment area and local circulation, while the 850 nm near-infrared wavelength reaches deeper into the targeted area.

Its adjustable strap allows the Therma Plus to remain securely positioned during use, making it our convenient hands-free solution for targeted everyday pain relief.

It is particularly practical for localised areas such as the knees, joints, arms, shoulders, back and other areas where continuous, focused infrared application is desired.

Different Products – One Infrared Research Platform

The Infrared Pain Laser and Infrared Therma Plus were not developed to replace one another.

They serve different treatment needs.

The Infrared Pain Laser is our more powerful premium device, developed for deeper, more concentrated and intensive treatment of a wider range of pain conditions.

The Infrared Therma Plus is our latest wearable premium solution, developed for comfortable, hands-free treatment of targeted areas during everyday use.

Both products are based on the same broader DR SKINPRO® philosophy: using carefully selected wavelengths and application methods to turn infrared technology into practical health solutions.

More Than Just Infrared Light

Our development process is not limited to selecting a wavelength and placing it inside a device.

We continuously evaluate how wavelength, penetration depth, treatment area, power, comfort and usability work together.

The objective is to create products that make advanced infrared technology practical for real everyday needs.

This is also why different DR SKINPRO® devices use different wavelength combinations. A wearable solution designed for continuous local application has different requirements from a concentrated handheld premium laser designed for more intensive treatment.

DR SKINPRO® Infrared Health Solutions

Infrared technology represents one specialised area within the broader DR SKINPRO® Health Solutions portfolio.

Our objective is to develop products around specific health needs rather than create one universal solution for every customer.

Within infrared pain relief, this means offering different levels of treatment — from convenient targeted support to our most powerful premium infrared technology.

And as our research continues, our infrared portfolio will continue to develop alongside new technologies, applications and health-focused solutions.

Conclusion

Years of research, development and collaboration with experts from the health sector have shaped the DR SKINPRO® approach to infrared technology.

By studying how different red and near-infrared wavelengths interact with different tissue depths, we have developed multiple technologies for targeted pain relief, physical comfort and local circulation support.

The DR SKINPRO® Infrared Pain Laser represents our premium solution for deeper and more intensive infrared treatment, while the Infrared Therma Plus, our latest infrared development, provides premium hands-free support for targeted everyday use.

Different wavelengths. Different treatment concepts. Different levels of intensity.

One shared objective:

To develop advanced infrared health solutions designed around real pain and real everyday needs.
